9 Reasons To Be Excited About The Rest Of 2017

The rise of the far right, geo-political uncertainty, dry January… It’s the start of 2017 and the state of the world doesn’t look great. And while we’re glad to have seen the back of 2016, the fact remains that we still, y’know, live in the same time continuum, and that the start of a year is really just a man-made conceit that has no power to stop the events of the past from unfolding…

Oops, did we mention that there are 10 reasons to be excited about 2017? Because despite all of the pre-apocalyptic mess, there are some things you can count on to bring you joy. Read on for a list of things that will make your 2017 feel more laughing Chewbacca mum and less tragically deceased silverback gorilla.

1. Sleep Is A Priority

It’s a sign of how busy our lives have become that something as primordial as sleep is seen as a consumer trend. Armed with mounting research proving the positive effects of sleep on everything from your mental health to your productivity, in 2017 it’s just not cool to brag about surviving on five hours a night. The demand for sleeping aids like hi-tech mattresses and apps is soaring, while Ariana Huffington spoke about sleep being the key to success at the first Sleep Symposium last year. Just take all this as an excuse to get more shut eye.

2. Cult Classics Will Be Revived

Blade Runner 2049, T2: Trainspotting, Alien: Covenant, 24: Legacy, Twin Peaks, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and a Star Trek TV series. 2017 will see film and TV shows from years gone by return to our screens. Sure, the proliferation of remakes, reboots and sequels can be a sign of an entertainment industry unprepared to take creative risks, but having Arrival director Denis Villeneuve behind the new Blade Runner and loads of original cast members returning for the third season of Twin Peaks are reasons to get excited.
