Jay-Z is a living legend; his contribution to the music industry is immeasurable and this is the reason he will be honoured at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
According to Billboard, the Roc Nation boss will be presented with the Grammy Salute to Industry Icons Awards at the 2018 Pre-Grammy Gala slated for January 27, as recognition for his ‘unblemished’ resume’ plus his exceptional business acumen which has launched the career of younger artistes.
“We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to honor JAY-Z with this year’s GRAMMY Salute to Industry Icons Award. His contributions as an industry trailblazer and music visionary only begin to touch on the tremendous impact he’s made both in entertainment and beyond,” said Neil Portnow, president/ceo of the Recording Academy, in a statement released yesterday. “JAY-Z also embodies the vibrant sprit of New York City and we couldn’t imagine a more fitting honoree as we return to Manhattan for this year’s GRAMMY Awards.”
Also, the Co-host of the Pre-Grammy Gala, Clive Davis, agreed with Portnow, saying, “JAY-Z is a quintessential icon and I couldn’t be happier and more excited to share the evening with him. What a night this will be!”
Some of the major accomplishments Jay-Z has achieved include:
Launching the Roc Nation Sports, which boasts a line-up of sportsmen, including Kevin Durant and Robinson Cano; birthing the annual Made in America Festival which has seen international acts, including Nigerian stars like Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi and Ycee performing to a hungry American audience; and also, his recent induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame for being the lyricist that he is.
Jay-Z also has a record of philanthropic accomplishments which has been documented through his Shawn Carter Foundation; the foundation currently works to “further education for those with socio-economic hardships.”
These and many more, are some of the reasons he is getting the deserved salute.
